Mobile technology – the missing link?
Headstar worked with Local Government IT in Use magazine (LGITU) and the Mobile Data Association (MDA), with support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Project Nomad, to conduct the UK's first major survey investigating whether mobile technology can provide the missing link in transforming service delivery.
The three-phase research programme surveyed local government officers across the UK, asking whether new technologies enabling mobile and flexible working can help local government to deliver better services in line with current government initiatives.
The initiative was backed by the DTI and was rolled out in a number of phases over nine months in 2007-08. The ultimate aim was to foster a better understanding of the potential that mobile technology offers in the fulfilment of transformational government.
The work was the first study of its kind to look exhaustively at the potential for mobilising local government services.
